With 40 years of experience in machine manufacturing we have found a professional partner. HJU machines are built according to European standards and are CE compliant. Siemens PLC systems and Festo pneumatics are standard on all HJUs. Full service and spare parts are provided by HDG Germany.

HJU machines provide maximum flexibility as well as high outputs in combination with very attractive pricing.

With the latest evolution of HDG RB-300 series, HDG is now providing a packaging machine for the filling of stick packs into stand up pouches. With an output of up to 55 pouches per minute, up to 30 sticks per stand up pouch can be filled. In the duplex version this corresponds to an output of up to 110 pouches per minute. This machine type can handle pouch formats from 40mm x 40mm up to 300mm x 400mm depending on selected version. Thanks to the consistently advanced quick change system, a tool-less format change can be implemented by one person within less than 20 minutes. 

HDG have developed a new filling and presenting system - up to 30 coffee sticks are collected and then filled into stand up doypack style pouches – This machine is close to delivery for a worldwide leading producer in the coffee industry. Here an automatic drop gate system is applied and is fully synchronized to the upstream stick pack packaging systems. 

All HDG machines are built in a modular design and can be combined with dosing systems for dry and wet products. Various pouch sizes and styles can be retrofitted at any time. HDG machines are designed with the highest hygiene and safety standards that most multinational companies demand and can be delivered with the latest Pack-ML standards. With the latest evolution of HDG RB-400 series the HDG machine program has been complemented by a highly flexible packaging machine solution. With an output of up to 400 pouches per minute, the HDG RB-400 combines maximum flexibility with diverse pouch styles and sizes. This machine type can handle pouch formats from 40mm x 40mm up to 400mm x 400mm, depending on the selected version. Thanks to the consistent and advanced quick change system, a tool-less format change can be implemented by one person within less than 60 minutes.

For a Brazilian based coffee producer, a flexible machine solution for filling and packaging of ground, granulated and freeze-dried coffee in bottom fold pouches has been delivered. With two different and flexible exchangeable dosing systems – tube slide filler for freeze-dried, granulated coffee and auger filler for ground bean coffee – here a mature and quickly changeable concept finds an application.

With the latest evolution of HDG RB-200 series for a packaging project in the pharmaceutical industry, HDG is now providing a packaging machine for the packing of multi components into a flat pouch. The RB-200 is the smallest model in HDG machine program with most compact footprint. Depending on execution of the machine pouch formats from 40 mm x 40 mm up to 200 mm x 400 mm can be handled. An output of up to 120 pouches/min can be reached. Thanks to the consistently advanced quick- change system, a tool-less format change can be implemented by one person within less than 20 minutes.

In a current project for a large US pharma group, perfectly synchronized state of the art dosing solutions arrange for a secure positioning of a single dose applicator as well as an oxygen absorber pad into a flat pouch. HDG delivers the complete product validation as well as total OCR print validation including integrated camera system. In order to meet the downstream packaging process, an integrated system for line merging is incorporated which also belongs to the HDG scope of development and delivery.

With the latest evolution of the HDG RB-200 series, the HDG machine program has been complemented by a highly flexible packaging machine solution. With an output of up to 240 pouches per minute, the HDG RB-200 combines maximum flexibility related to applications with diverse pouch styles and sizes. This machine type can handle pouch formats from 40mm x 40mm up to 200mm x 400mm, depending on the selected version.

For a large Swedish producer of specialty tea and coffee, a packaging machine has been delivered. With diverse dosing systems, it is possible to pack loose coffee and tea, chai latte powder as well as pyramid teabags. The exchangeable filling stations offer maximum flexibility and can be changed within 30 minutes. The dosing solution specially developed for pyramid teabags is a reliable solution which has meanwhile been proven in many similar projects.

As all sealing stations of the machine are driven by servo motors so that sealing times of pouch seals can be set independently from each other. This means that sensitive or cheaper film materials can be handled without having to find compromises in closure safety and quality. Upcoming service and cleaning works can be done quickly and ergonomically thanks to the swiveling top sealing unit.

Within the scope of a packaging project implemented in conjunction with the hotel cosmetics manufacturer and contract filler ADA Cosmetic GmbH, HDG Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH has developed a packaging line for side sealed pouches that is intended specifically for the packing of highly inflammable cosmetic products.

The packaging of alcohol containing cosmetic articles, such as creams, shampoos or face masks, places high demands on the packaging systems used. In order to be able to guarantee in an explosive atmosphere a safe and legally compliant packing process and the associated health protection of the employee, a packaging lines is required, that entirely conforms to the European Union's ATEX directives.

HDG met these challenges and in conjunction with the hotel cosmetics manufacturer and contract filler ADA Cosmetic GmbH, based in Kehl, Germany, designed a packaging machine for side sealed pouches that is particularly geared to the specified packaging of various cosmetic articles and counteracts the formation of an explosive atmosphere as well as effective ignition sources. In preparation for this design, a comprehensive safety analysis was carried out in which the precise product processing quantities and the explosion risk resulting from these were defined. Based on the findings obtained, the critical areas were sub-divided into different zones, in order to define the scope of the necessary measures and to adapt components, such as e.g. the sealing area sensor technology, accordingly. Moreover, the packaging machine was equipped with a mobile pump trolley with two different liquid metering systems: for one thing with a heatable funnel for greasy and pasty products, for another thing with an unheated funnel for alcohol-containing products conforming to ATEX guidelines. Altogether, not only a more reliable packaging process can be ensured but also a high level of flexibility in respect of the packaging of different products.

The packaging line

The HDG-RBK horizontal form, fill and seal machine in its duplex version that is already well established in the market was selected for this packaging project and produced in accordance with the requiremeints of the ATEX safety objectives at the company site in Kürten, Germany. The machine was designed in wash-down version for a format size range of 2 x 45 mm x 50 mm to 2 x 92 mm x 210 mm and for processing of up to 140 pouches per minute. In a first step of the packaging process, 3 and 4 side sealed pouches as well as double pouches, i.a. for enclosing as samples in magazines, are produced on the RBK line and filled with different cosmetic products. In line with its quality, the machine is equipped with the proven HDG rotary table with quick-change system. Hence not only the changeover times for various format sizes can be reduced to a minimum, but also the cleaning during product changes can be significantly improved.

Thanks to the combination of deep-rooted expertise and latest future-oriented technology, HDG has succeeded in further developing its RB-200-line: a horizontal form, fill and seal machine with rotary turret system. Besides a larger size range the compact packaging machine convinces with the new tool-less quick-change system. By this both, the set-up time for different formats, and the cleaning of the machine can be reduced significantly.
The HDG RB-200 is part of the HDG Premium line which is characterized by a high capacity as well as a maximum flexibility with regard to different pouch formats, pouch types and products.
The RBK-line is available in three different capacity levels, including in stainless steel. This means that up to 240 pouches per minute and a format range of 40 x 40mm to 200 x 400 mm can be realised, depending on the model selected.
All models of the RB-200-line work with the proven rotary principle. This system is steadily being improved for reaching a maximum of bag quality and a high performance on smallest working space.

After a construction phase of eleven month, HDG moves from Kuerten to Lindlar into its new sales and production location. In Lindlar, a building complex with a floor area of 4,000 square meters has been constructed on a plot of 14,000 square meters within the last few months. Centre pieces of the new building are the assembly hall and the warehouse of 2,800 square meters, which enable HDG to extend the range of products and services offered as well as to realise more complex projects, such as complete production lines or new developments. The building project with an investment volume of five Million Euro also aims to improve occupational safety and quality. Employees are looking forward to modern office rooms, new social areas as well as a large canteen. Thanks to a better insulation and the use of a combined heat and power unit, all requirements for energy efficiency are met, so that energy savings of up to 20 percent can be achieved now. For both the shell and interior construction, HDG used local suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint further. The management sees the moving to Lindlar as a long-term investment. Thanks to the healthy order situation and increasingly complex packaging projects, the production and sales location in Kuerten reached their capacity limits. In order to meet highest quality standards without compromise and to further expand the strong market position, HDG urgently needed more space.

HDG Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH has developed a machine concept's for Vitamex Manufacturing AB, a well-known Swedish manufacturer of wellness products, setting new performance standards for the packaging of tablets and capsules into side sealed pouches.

The packaging machine type RB-400-4 used for this project handles 4 tablets and capsules, each of different size and form, and reaches an output of up to 240 pouches per minute. This corresponds to a capacity which is currently unique for packaging machines handling this kind of application.

For the operation of this machine only one operator is needed who fills the tablets and capsules into the reservoir. From this point on, the packaging process is fully automated and continued up until the packaged outer case. Furthermore, in order to guarantee the requested product quality, the specifically designed packaging machine allows production under pharmaceutical conditions, i.e. under cleanroom as well as the specific qualification regulations of the customer.

To enable the application of very thin film material, the film transport system of the RB-400-4 machine has been optimized so that the pouches are supported by a special vacuum technique during transport through the cutting stations. The packaging machine is equipped with the proven HDG quick-change features at the turret. This means that not only the change-over time of different formats can be reduced to a minimum but also the cleaning during product changes can be optimised.

The dosing technology for the tablets and capsules was delivered by Pharma Packaging Systems Ltd. This British manufacturer was, contrary to some of it's competitors, in the position to handle the variety of products within the requested customer specifications. Preceding attempts to dose the tablets and capsules with vibration feeders - which was common in the market up to that point of time - had failed due to the high capacity and product variety.

Since decades the commitment to social responsibility and ethically correct behavior and practices are guiding HDG Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH. Due to the successful passing of the SMETA-audit, the compliance with these standards has been officially confirmed by an independent institution now.

SMETA stands for Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit and comprises a social and ethical audit for worldwide trading. In the course of the audit, HDG’s working conditions, the applied health, safety and environmental standards as well as general business practices have been evaluated by the independent Bureau Veritas with reference to an extensive catalogue of specifications.

Peter Steindl, Managing Director of HDG, proudly shows the certificate: 'For us it is essential to manage HDG with social responsibility and to manufacture our products under consideration of ethical principles.
